Digital empowerment is reshaping education, and ten Penang schools are now part of that evolution through Greatech’s Digital Library Transformative Program 2025. This marks the Penang-based company’s most ambitious education initiative yet, aimed at redefining traditional learning spaces into dynamic, tech-driven environments.
Through this initiative, Greatech will fund the creation of state-of-the-art digital libraries, transforming 10 traditional school libraries into innovative learning hubs. The selected schools are SJK(C) Jit Sin B, SJK(C) Kai Chee, SJK(C) Li Hwa, SJK(C) Peng Bin, SJK(C) Sin Ya, SJK(C) Kong Min (Cawangan Kedua), SMK(L) Methodist, SJK(C) Min Sin, SJK(C) Sacred Heart, and SMK St Xavier.[1]
According to Greatech Human Resources and Admin Director Jenise Loo Khai Tien, the program aims to empower students with digital tools that foster creativity, independent learning, and innovation. She said the objective is to transform conventional study areas into interactive, tech-enabled spaces that nurture curiosity and lifelong learning.[2]
The launch ceremony was officiated by Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow at Greatech’s Batu Kawan headquarters. The initiative builds on earlier projects that sponsored three schools, namely SJK(C) Beng Teik and SJK(C) Chung Hwa 3 in 2022, and SJK(C) Aik Hua in 2024. These earlier efforts demonstrated how digital libraries can spark curiosity and enhance student engagement.
Loo emphasised that as a Penang-based company, Greatech views success not only in business growth but also in its contribution to nurturing young talent. She added that applications for the 2026 program will open soon through the company’s social media channels.[3]
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow commended Greatech’s efforts, describing them as a partnership between the state government, industry, and the community to promote digital inclusivity and educational innovation. He noted that the program is not merely about upgrading infrastructure but transforming how students access and engage with knowledge.[4]
As Penang continues to strengthen its role as a global technology hub, digital literacy has become a vital skill. The Greatech Digital Library Program supports Penang2030’s goal of building a creative, digitally competent generation ready for the future.
Aligned with Penang2030’s Accelerate Programme Delivery and Institutional Plan, this initiative demonstrates how public-private collaboration can fast-track impactful educational programs. By investing in digital infrastructure and nurturing young talent, Greatech’s effort embodies the state’s drive to strengthen institutions and build a future-ready society.
